Meet John McWhorter
Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
John McWhorter joined OhioHealth in July 2020 as Chief Operating Officer. In this executive role, he is charged with successfully executing the strategy for OhioHealth and assuring the organization is high performing. John has responsibility for hospitals, ambulatory care, nursing, shared services, customer satisfaction, partnerships, and lean strategy. His extensive operational experience and success in leading highly complex and matrixed environments are key to advancing the mission at OhioHealth.
Prior to joining OhioHealth, John served as Chief Operating Officer for Baylor Scott & White Health in Dallas, Texas. John previously held leadership positions with St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Methodist Hospitals of Dallas.
He received a Bachelor of Science in finance from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, and both a Master of Healthcare Administration and Doctor of Science in Health Services from University of Alabama Birmingham. He is involved in multiple faith and charitable mission ministries and currently serves on the Salvation Army (Central Ohio) Advisory Board, as well as a member of the business advisory council for the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. Additionally, he also completed a six-year term on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Board of Directors.
John resides in New Albany, Ohio, with his wife, Suzanne. They are involved with the New Albany Presbyterian Church. They have two grown children, Chip and Allie and an extended family.
