Hospital Volunteer Opportunities
As a volunteer, you may be asked to help out in one of many departments in the hospital. Some volunteer responsibilities include:
- Escorting patients and visitors
- Working as a gift shop associate
- Providing clerical support
- Delivering flowers, mail and newspapers
- Greeting visitors and providing directions
- Volunteering with guild and special projects
- Helping hospice families

Our volunteers play a key role when it comes to the overall patient and visitor experience at Berger Hospital. They can be seen throughout the hospital performing tasks, such as:
- Distributing mail, newspapers, flowers, books and videos to patients
- Escorting patients to their rooms
- Greeting visitors and providing directions
- Offering clerical support
- Visiting with patients

- Hospice Volunteers
Hospice is a special kind of care offered to people with a life-limiting illness. Hospice treats the person, not the disease. In addition to providing for the patient's needs, the hospice team attends to the emotional, physiological and spiritual needs of the patient and the family.
Berger is the only non-profit hospice provider in Pickaway County, and we've been a staple of the community for more than 20 years. We offer a team-based approach to hospice that is provided by people who live and work in the community. Our volunteers are part of that team, and they're supported by physicians, nurses, therapists, health aides, chaplains and social workers.
Our hospice volunteers go through a training process before they start work. The tasks they perform as a hospice volunteer can vary, depending on the needs of the families they serve. For more information, contact Berger Hospice at (740) 420-7950.
- Gift Shop Volunteers
Our gift shop is located in the corridor between the hospital's main lobby and the medical office building. It offers a variety of gift items, including fresh flowers, cards and candles. Those gifts can brighten the day of a person recovering in the hospital. Proceeds from those purchases help fund the professional development opportunities of the staff. Purchases also help us raise funds for buying equipment.
Our volunteers help to keep the gift shop running. They answer questions, ring up purchases and perform other retail duties during the shop's open hours.
