Volunteers serve the hospital in so many ways by providing support to nursing professionals and associates so they can focus their efforts on patient care. No matter your interests or skills, volunteering can provide an opportunity for personal fulfillment. Volunteer Opportunities
Your cheerful, caring, helpful attitude can make a significant impact on a patient’s hospital stay. As a volunteer, you may be asked to serve in a number of capacities:
- Greet visitors
- Give directions
- Escort patients and visitors
- Assist patients and staff as needed
- Answer telephones
- Deliver mail, flowers, and cards
- Work on special projects like information packets and mailings
- Greet and assist customers in the gift shop
- Run the cash register in the gift shop
- Restock merchandise in the gift shop
Volunteers are also needed in some clinical units. These opportunities will be discussed in more detail during your interview.
How to get started
- Be interviewed
- Have a background check
- Need to provide a note from your physician that you are healthy enough to volunteer
- Need to get tested for TB and get a mandatory flu vaccine (the medical system pays for these tests and vaccines)
- Go through an orientation program and training
